The Special Project Group Leader manages Finance department projects, provides functional and technical support, works with other areas to plan and implement system/process improvements or updates, and applies critical thinking to solve dynamic problems.


Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.


  1. Prioritize, track, and manage special projects to maximize delivery of business value while considering stakeholder and business time commitments.
  2. Provide functional and technical support in the areas of Financial Controlling, General Ledger, Cost Center Accounting, Asset Accounting, Accounts Payable, Material Ledger, Financial Reporting, and related areas.
  3. Work with solution integrators, corporate Finance and Information Services, and business process owners to plan, implement, and test SAP implementations, system/process improvements, and technical updates.
  4. Gather project requirements, understand the impact of changes to Finance and other areas, ensure that appropriate stakeholders understand and approve changes, and that company level activities are considered.
  5. Develop expertise in relevant business areas and ensure that the system supports the current and future needs of the business.
  6. Stay up to date with SAP best practices and system capabilities and align these with business processes and objectives to deliver competitive advantages.
  7. Deliver clear communications to a variety of audiences.  Foster open communication with all stakeholders.
  8. Develop and maintain positive relationships with all related business and technical areas. 
  9. Apply critical thinking to solve dynamic problems.
  10. Supervise associate(s) in the special project section.
  11. All other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Finance/Accounting, or a related subject, plus 5 or more years relevant experience.
  • Experience with SAP and MS Office applications


Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Finance/Accounting, or a related subject, plus 10 or more years relevant experience.
  • Experience with MS Office applications, SAP, OpenText, Concur, Ariba, JIRA

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will supervise other associate(s).


Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions, particularly during heavy customer service periods (e.g., in-between production shifts). Occasionally required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, and management.


Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate with or without a reasonable accommodation to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing the duties of this role, the Associate is required to be at work as scheduled consistently and dependably, talk, and hear. The Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger for keyboarding, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.


Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to occasional overtime to meet the needs of monthly closing, yearly closing, and physical inventory. This may include scheduled weekends as needed. This role does not currently allow for full remote work opportunities.



This role requires minimal travel. Occasional travel may be required mainly for off-site training or business collaboration purposes.
