SQA – Supplier Development Quality Engineer

The Supplier Development Quality Engineer is responsible for quality by leading and supporting in-depth process audits at suppliers to review parts and processes at their production facilities. This role identifies issues and optimizes the supplier’s production processes and equipment through root cause analysis to achieve the safety, quality, output, and cost goals of SIA. This role collects production data and applies scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. This role is responsible for identifying production problems and likewise identifying methods for resolution. The Supplier Development Quality Engineer evaluates processes and quality, then recommends and implements changes to equipment, work methods and other aspects of production to improve quality and eliminate defects.

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.

  1. Utilize part drawings, technical specifications, and other standards to determine part requirements and conformance to those requirements. Reviews and understands Control Plans, PFMEA, Inspection Standards, ISR, PPAP, PDCA/Continuous Improvement, Work Instructions through order/method and other items related to the approval of parts delivered to production area
  2. Project Management of all activities included within the scope of Supplier audits, follow up, scheduling and completion
  3. Review, track, and disposition weekly and monthly reports
  4. Track and analyze trend data for key metrics to identify and prioritize improvement projects for continuous improvement at Suppliers
  5. Lead and support in-depth process audits at Suppliers. Effectively interact and communicate with entities inside and outside of SIA by utilizing strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  6. Develop, update, track data, and create presentations for SIA Management and Leadership
  7. Travel extensively as required to meet with Suppliers and review parts and processes at production facilities                
  8. Utilize and develop process controls to be able to audit, validate and identify areas for improvement with any process

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to overtime to meet demands required with travel to Suppliers.



This role requires extensive travel (up to 75-80%). This travel can and will include international travel including Japan and other countries. Travel to Mexico is very frequent for this role.
