Plant Overview:  Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. was America’s first zero-landfill automotive manufacturing company and is the safest vehicle manufacturer in the country. Department Overview: The In-Process Control group (IPC Assembly) can be considered ‘final in-house quality’ and rigorously judges the quality of our trim and engine shops. This includes interior, exterior, and electro-mechanical functions. Interior includes panel fit, water leaks, and more. Exterior includes panel-to-panel fit, installed components (lights), door molding, grill, and any plastic parts on the outside of the vehicle. Electrical-mechanical components include locks, windows, wipers, display panel, etc. The general purpose of the group is to identify issues, run root cause analyses, create interdepartmental task teams (related to where the origin of the problem lies), and solve problems that are either considered chronic or one-time issues. Examples of a one-time issue is a bad part (from supplier) or poor installation of a good part. Chronic problems are often related to parts being out of spec.


Job Breakdown

  • 10%: Reviewing data and seeking improvement opportunities.
  • 50%: Working on those opportunities with task teams or hands-on collection of data using many forms of measurement tools.
  • 20%: Running projects related to inspection teams and other support teams.
  • 20%: Daily tasks, presentations, summaries, meetings.

Outline of duties:

  • Lead, prioritize and assign problem solving activities for chronic or repetitive defects affecting plant performance.
  • Follow up on corrective action reports to assure adequate response from responsible shops.
  • Collect and analyze data from the manufacturing process or sampling groups that are causing a negative impact on SIA’s manufacturing processes. From this analysis, perform studies to identify root cause on complex issues involving function of various automotive systems.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for department and plant as applicable for cross functional teams, audit groups, and training.
  • Create and lead cross-functional task teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field i.e. Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or Technology and/or equivalent Dimensional Engineering experience.
  • Ability to collect, process and analyze data and significant experience conducting Root Cause Analyses.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Ability to provide presentations to executive leadership.


Desired Qualifications

  • Familiar with CAN communications and C-programming
  • Previous experience with 3 dimensional measurements, CMM measuring, Portable CMM measuring.
  • Familiar with measurement equipment: multimeters, in vehicle diagnostic tools, oscilloscope, wave function generator, power supply, etc.
  • PCB board and soldering experience.
  • Interpret blueprints, part and assembly drawings.
  • Demonstrated past experience using data to solve assembly problems.
  • Possess strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven experience with Plan Do Check Act method. (PDCA Cycle)
  • Experience with 3D Magic, PC Dimis, Polyworks or other measurement software.
  • Experience with Catia, Solidworks or other similar 3D CAD software.
