Procurement – Buyer/Cost Analyst

 

Summary

This Buyer/Cost Analyst is responsible for finding the most accurate cost to develop negotiation strategy, use effective negotiation strategy to influence a party to adjust their position based on the analysis to align with accurate costs and mutually beneficial interests.

 

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.

 

  1. Responsible for supplier accounts with an average annual spend of $120 million
    1. Leads in achieving company sourcing targets
      • Gains industry knowledge of commodity group and automotive industry trends
      • Creates long-term sourcing strategy for commodity group
      • Facilitates new supplier vetting (including on-site and financial audits)
      • Executes sourcing strategies through the sourcing decision making process
      • Reports and gain final approval up to executive level management
    2. Leads company cost reduction activity
      • Cost structure and supply-chain analysis
      • Supplier production process evaluation and improvement activity
      • Supplier negotiation
      • Initiates VA/VE activity through collaboration with design & quality engineers
      • Contract management activity
      • Engineering change cost analysis and approval contract activity
    3. Tactical support for supplier quality, delivery, development, packaging, AP/AR, and service parts
  2. All other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field of study

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years relevant experience in Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field of study
  • Understanding of Purchasing and product development process
  • Production process background/knowledge

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with automotive parts and assembly
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Good communication and negotiation skills (phone / e-mail / group speaking)
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and reporting skills
  • High degree of self-motivation, leadership ability, strong work ethic, high degree of ownership
  • Ability to lead meetings both within SIA and at suppliers
  • Some availability needed after hours for video meetings with Japan as well as coverage during weekends and shutdowns
  • Ability to read drawings and technical specifications

 

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions. Required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, external contractors, and management. 

 

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to occasional overtime to meet demands of the role which may include 1-3 scheduled Saturdays per year and occasional daily overtime. This role does not currently allow for remote work opportunities.

 

Travel

Moderate travel may be required mainly for Supplier visits, business collaboration, and training purposes.
