The Manufacturing Engineer develops and optimizes productions processes and equipment to achieve the safety, quality, output, and cost goals of the organization. Collects production data and applies engineering principles, scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. A manufacturing engineer is responsible for identifying production problems and likewise identifying methods for resolution. They recommend and implement changes to equipment, work methods and other aspects of production to improve the utilization of all relevant resources.

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.

  1. Requests and verifies process or equipment countermeasures when needed.
  2. Actively pursues new ways of analyzing and communicating data to improve quality.
  3. Conduct business process audits to ensure that process indicators are being properly tracked and maintained when requested.
  4. Drives Kaizen activity, applies statistical and other improvement tools.
  5. Leads improvement plans to validate production processes to achieve department & plant targets for both new model and current production.
  6. Creates and maintains punch lists.
  7. Supports and/or leads assigned shop in root cause analysis of any safety, quality, cost, or delivery concerns.
  8. Participates in cross-functional teams to recommend and countermeasure plant-wide issues.
  9. Meets with and manages vendor project activities.
  10. Creates professional documents to record and track measurement results.
  11. Leads and/or supports continuous improvement activities to improve process functionality.
  12. Aids and supports Production, Production Engineering, Maintenance, Materials, and/or New Model Pilot Team in process validations as needed.
  13. Use of various CAD software
  14. Demonstrates development and control of project master schedules and budget management
  15. Communicates effectively with all Associates, Leadership, vendors, etc.
  16. All other duties as assigned.




  1. Creates and/or reviews EPS and other ISO documents to support work instructions.
  2. Evaluates all assigned Shop processes and implement drawing changes or Inspection Standard updates to improve application or understanding.
  3. Evaluates new vehicle design for manufacturability
  4. Establishment and/or verification of equipment process parameters



  1. Troubleshoots and modifies mechanical, electrical or controls systems.
  2. PLC programming troubleshooting, creation, and modification
  3. HMI modification and development



  1. Use of various CAD software to design concepts and support 3-D modeling of components.
  2. Applies technical knowledge to develop concepts from design phase to trial and implementation



  1. Works with US Suppliers to develop part packaging and calculate fleet requirements
  2. Supports Transportation route planning and optimization
  3. Incorporates and connects Supply Chain systems to ensure inventory control per production schedule requirements
  4. Prepares process, facility or systems plans with consideration of PFEP constraints

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Associates Degree plus 1 - 3 years relevant experience or 5 - 7 years relevant experience
    • Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 7 -10 years relevant experience.
    • Engineering, Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will not supervise other Associates.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions, particularly during heavy customer service periods (e.g., in-between production shifts). Required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role is occasionally required to utilize manufacturing equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, external contractors, and management.

Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate with or without a reasonable accommodation to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing the duties of this role, the Associate is required to be at work as scheduled consistently and dependably, talk, and hear. The Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger for keyboarding, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

  • The ability to lift 20lbs regularly.
  • The ability to sit, stand and walk for up to two hours at time.
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain.

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to overtime to meet demands of production. This role may be required to work scheduled weekends, holidays, company shutdowns, and daily overtime to meet department goals and deadlines. This role is required to cover 2nd shift Production hours as needed. This role does not currently allow for remote work opportunities.


This role requires minimal travel. Occasional travel may be required mainly for off-site training or business collaboration purposes including potential overseas travel.
