Summary

The In-Process Control (IPC) Metal Engineer develops and optimizes productions processes and equipment to achieve the safety, quality, output, and cost goals of the organization. Collects production data and applies scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. This role is responsible for identifying production problems and likewise identifying methods for resolution. The IPC Metal Engineer evaluates quality, then recommends and implement changes to equipment, work methods and other aspects of production to improve the utilization of all relevant resources. 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Interpret precision measurement data and correlate to complete vehicle concerns.
  2. Actively pursue new ways of analyzing data to improve quality.
  3. Develop and maintain list of critical product and process indicators.
  4. Conduct process audits to ensure that process indicators are being properly tracked and maintained.
  5. Create and maintain project schedules and quality punch lists
  6. Lead improvement plans to validate production processes to achieve department & plant targets for both new model and current production. Aid and support Body and Stamping shop for part and process validations.
  7. Support and or lead Body and Stamping for root cause analysis of dimensional issues.
  8. Actively participate in cross functional teams to recommend and countermeasure plant wide issues.
  9. Create professional documents to record and track measurement results.
  10. Lead and support continuous improvement activities to improve CP/CPK for both Body and Stamping.
  11. Ensure that best practices and methods are being used for gauging activities.
  12. Aid and support Body and Stamping shop for part and process validations.
  13. Evaluate part structures and implement Design Change Requests to improve assembly and manufacturing for Body and Stamping.
  14. All other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

    • Associates degree in a technical field such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Technology, plus 1-3 years of relevant experience
    • In lieu of education, 5+ years of equivalent Dimensional Engineering experience may be considered

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years relevant experience
    • Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or Industrial Engineering

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will not supervise other Associates.

 

 

 

 

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions, particularly during heavy customer service periods (e.g., in-between production shifts). Required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role is required to utilize manufacturing equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, external contractors, and management. 

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate with or without a reasonable accommodation to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing the duties of this role, the Associate is required to be at work as scheduled consistently and dependably, talk, and hear.  The Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger for keyboarding, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. 

 

  • The ability to lift 20lbs regularly. 
  • The ability to sit, stand and walk for up to two hours at time. 
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds. 
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain.
  • The ability to move safely in confined spaces. 
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. 
  •  The ability to climb ladders while carrying up to 20lbs. 
  • The ability to wear personal protective equipment. 

 

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to occasional overtime to meet demands of production, which may include multiple Saturdays per year and occasional daily overtime. This role does not currently allow for remote work opportunities.

 

Travel

Occasional travel, including overseas travel, may be required mainly for off-site training or business collaboration purposes.
