Position Summary:
The Group Leader – Security & Emergency Services is responsible for overseeing and supporting the organization’s physical security operations, including the supervision of security personnel and coordination with external partners. The role ensures the effective implementation of security programs, systems, and procedures to mitigate risk and maintain a safe working environment. It supports threat assessment and crisis management efforts, leads training and emergency preparedness initiatives, and maintains collaboration with public safety agencies. Additionally, the position provides oversight of security data analysis, executive protection programs, and the Emergency Response Team, ensuring compliance, readiness, and continuous improvement across all security functions.
Outline of duties:
- Provides direct supervision and support to assigned security personnel and contract security staff by reinforcing training programs, monitoring performance, and ensuring team members demonstrate the competencies required to effectively manage risk and respond to security incidents.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with vendors and security staffing partners to support the development and continuous improvement of the organization’s Physical Security Program.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of security policies, procedures, and training programs. Supports the deployment, operation, and maintenance of access control systems, accountability and alerting systems, emergency communication systems, and related physical security technologies, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Supports the Threat Assessment and Crisis Management Team by contributing to the implementation of preventative measures and monitoring workplace conditions for potential risks. During incidents, provides tactical oversight and deliver timely reporting to management.
- Participates in the planning, coordination, and execution of regular training sessions, drills, and simulated emergency exercises to ensure organizational preparedness.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with local public safety and emergency response agencies (e.g., law enforcement, fire services, EMS) to support incident response, training exercises, and site coordination activities.
- Coordinates, conducts, and supports internal and external security audits to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Oversees the analysis of security-related data to identify trends, vulnerabilities, and high-risk areas, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Provides oversight of executive protection and duty-of-care programs for traveling associates, including the development of processes, risk assessments, and travel-related security protocols.
- Directly oversees the Emergency Response Team, ensuring all training, certifications, and procedures remain current and compliant with established standards.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, business administration, public administration or a related field; and at least two (2) years of relevant experience; or, if no degree, at least six (6) years relevant work experience in a related field;
- Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record;
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage security risks across multiple facility sites on or near the SIA Main Plant campus in a fast-paced office environment;
- Knowledge of best practices relative to emergency preparedness/response and security needs, techniques, equipment, and methods; and relevant federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations;
- Ability to plan, assign, train, direct, and oversee the work of others engaged in emergency response and security;
- Excellent leadership skills with ability to be calm under pressure, confident, decisive, influential and innovative;
- Crisis De-Escalation & Conflict Resolution Skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate a compelling and comprehensive set of outcomes to be achieved;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software;
- Ability to foster teamwork and influence others;
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to use hand strength and finger dexterity to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation;
- Ability to use a telephone and a computer keyboard on a daily basis; to hear and talk to receive and communicate information;
- The ability to wear personal protective equipment.
