General Accounting Manager

The General Accounting Manager has responsibility for the following functional areas: financial reporting, general ledger control, fixed assets, sales and accounts receivable, accounts payable, taxes (federal, state and property), customs, labor, department expenses, other conversion costs and budgeting.

The general accounting manager position would include the following tasks:

  • Supervision of the general accounting staff which includes establishing goals and evaluating performance.
  • Review of the general ledger journal entries and the month end closing process.
  • Review of the monthly account reconciliations.
  • Preparation of the monthly financial statements, financial analysis, and presentation to management.
  • Review of the monthly department expenses, labor and other reports that support the financial statements.
  • Investigation and analysis of variances between the actual amounts and the budgeted amounts. Presentation to management as to the reasons for the variances and recommendations for cost reduction.
  • Supervision and review of the activities associated with the sales invoicing and collection of cash.
  • Supervision and review of the activities associated with fixed assets and related expenses. 
  • Supervision and support of the activities associated with preparing the department expense budget. This also includes analysis and presentation of the results.
  • Supervision and support of the activities associated with the preparation of the labor budget.
  • Review of government reports.
  • Review and supervision of the tasks associated with taxation which includes federal, state, property and other taxes. This responsibility also includes the review of the state and federal tax returns.
  • Preparation of materials associated with the Advance Pricing Agreement (APA).
  • Testing and evaluating internal controls along with the performing periodical self-audits. 
  • Preparation and review of the schedules associated with the quarterly review and annual financial audit.
  • Review of the consolidated financial statements and the related footnotes.
  • Coordination of activities associated with the external auditors.
  • Coordination of activities with the Information Systems Department as it relates to accounting system improvements, changes and upgrades.






The education and experience requirements for the general accounting position include the following:


  • Bachelor of Science in accounting or equivalent 4-to-5-year degree.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Ten years of private and or public accounting experience.
  • Supervisory experience of accounting personnel.
  • General accounting experience in the following area: financial reporting, general ledger control, fixed asset management, accounts payable, labor accounting, and other conversion expenses.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, budget preparation and monitoring of budgets.
  • Expertise in federal and state taxation.
  • Expertise in the support and coordination of audits.
  • Expertise in also desirable in the following areas: SAP accounting systems, systems implementations and APA experience.
