Outline of duties:


  • Support and strengthen SIA’s Zero Landfill initiative
  • Oversee site Hazardous Waste operations and facilities.
  • Prepare annual compliance reports, including Tier II and Form R
  • Review, verify, and submit monthly and biannual WWT compliance reports, plans, and application data.
  • Prepare annual waste and water data summaries for submission to SBR.
  • Maintain site SWPPP and SPCC.
  • Oversee site UST installation and testing activities; prepare and submit UST compliance documentation.
  • Manage annual compliance manual updates.
  • Maintain and expand plant-wide Waste Stream Mapping project; review and verify waste stream analyses and characterization forms; update profiles as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Lead annual section improvement projects.
  • Perform cost comparisons for existing and new services.
  • Assist section management with intermittent evaluation and annual establishment of Sustainability Objectives and Targets to support SIA's EMS.
  • Conduct ISO 14001 document reviews, make necessary revisions, and work with the ISO administrator to issue updates; participate in internal and external ISO audits.
  • Collaborate with section and department liaisons and managers to promote awareness of Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform various on-site compliance inspections.
  • Lead internal RCRA compliance audits.
  • Participate in external regulatory audits.
  • Reconcile invoices and ensure alignment with section budgets.
  • Support production and engineering projects on weekends and during shutdown periods, as needed.
  • Review and renew service contracts.
  • Lead internal RCRA and DOT training
  • Review and approve new material requests.
  • Provide support to complete on-site compliance testing.
  • Organize and run annual Associate Recycling Event
  • Prepare PowerPoint slides for monthly management meetings.
  • Contribute monthly content to Environmental section newsletter.
  • Attend Safety, Enviro, & Energy Tours, as needed
  • Participate in Clean and Green Tour program and new associate training.
  • Perform other various tasks to support Environmental section responsibilities.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, GeoScience, Ecology, Agricultural Science, or other related field of study
  • Analytical Chemistry knowledge and analytical laboratory experience (wet chemistry required; gas and liquid chromatography and ICP preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of waste characterization and waste profile management experience
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing regulatory compliance documents, including but not limited to, reports, notifications, and permits. 
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential environmental impacts from manufacturing process changes, engineering projects, and facility additions.
  • Experience navigating and interpreting environmental regulations and providing simplified yet thorough explanation to all levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing, tracking, and reconciling budgets.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 standard and Environmental Management Systems
  • RCRA and DOT trained
  • Ability to self-manage, think critically, and solve problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective and professional communication skills



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Environmental Science or related field of study
  • CHMM credential
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Haz Mat Technician trained
  • Familiarity with waterborne and solvent borne paint formulations, processes, facilities, and waste streams.
  • Previous experience with wastewater treatment operations, permitting, and compliance.
  • Contract management experience
  • Familiarity with SAP
  • Experience in developing and administering environmental compliance training (RCRA, DOT, SWPPP, SPCC, Title V, UST)
  • Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry
