Position Overview: The Energy Specialist will focus on plant-wide energy reduction initiatives, compliance activities, and utility data analysis. The Energy Specialist will be responsible for communicating plant-wide energy reduction objectives and targets, developing short-term and long-term reduction plans, and tracking reduction activity progress.

 

Outline of duties:

 

  • Manage program to reduce plant cost of energy, water, and other commodity resources; collaborate with Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to set and achieve reductions to align with SIA Energy Management System.
  • Track and analyze section and plant energy usage.
  • Manage and troubleshoot energy tracking software.
  • Lead plant-wide CO2 reduction initiative
  • Conduct plant audits to review energy usage and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze plant energy cost data and provide monthly summaries.
  • Coordinate and lead plant Quarterly Energy Management Team meetings.
  • Develop energy improvement programs and projects.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Maintenance, and Production to promote energy management initiatives.
  • Maintain and update the SIA Energy Management System to reflect a spirit of innovation and excellence; support the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to resource use, reduction, and conservation. Work with utility providers to ensure accurate and reliable service is provided and billed.
  • Develop annual utility budgets (electricity and water).
  • Create PowerPoint presentations and clearly communicate energy information to plant management.
  • Work with vendors and section managers to develop kaizen ideas to reduce plant energy usage.
  • Act as a resource for any internal or external energy-related information requests/ calculations.
  • Manage, track, and report on status of on-going pilot projects.
  • Contribute energy content to monthly EOC meeting presentations and Environmental newsletter.
  • Assist with other Environmental section related activities, as needed (i.e., new associate training, inspections, audits, waste shipments, and parametric monitoring).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years industrial energy management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills
  • A strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report data in a clear, thorough, and concise manner.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment on multiple tasks with frequently changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of utility information systems, energy management technologies, and commodity metering systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and solutions development.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Certified Energy Manager credential
  • 3-5 years of experience performing energy audits, project development, lifecycle cost analyses, and building/system optimization.
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC, feedback control systems, lighting, mechanical systems, energy management technologies, and commodity metering systems
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD design software
  • Completion of formal project management training course(s).
