Summary

The SIA Human Resources Generalist is a professional role with a fundamental knowledge in a broad array of topics related to employee relations, compensation, hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the organization’s administrative workforce. The incumbent will play an active role in creating and maintaining a Human Resources “best practices” culture for the organization while advocating for the interests of both SIA and our Associates. 

 

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.

 

  1. Responsible for leading and/or supporting employee relations function and responding to HR related inquires for all salaried and administrative Associates, including coordinating investigations and coaching associates through counseling processes
  2. Responsible for proficiency with and interpretation of all HR policies that relate to the salaried and administrative workforce
  3. Contributes to the development and maintenance of a human resources information system (HRIS) that meets top management information needs
  4. Support the delivery of workforce data to relevant parties regarding human resources projects, policies and/or practices
  5. Coordinates training for management on topics such as interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, career development, safety, and policies
  6. Create and distribute internal communications regarding the HR function as needed
  7. Administer new Associate orientation, monitor the onboarding process for effectiveness and recommend improvements for implementation
  8. Monitor employee morale and company culture and provide meaningful feedback to organizational leadership regarding methods for improvement
  9. Collaborate with the HR team to develop effective recruitment strategies
  10. Develop and execute talent acquisition processes and use of technologies (SuccessFactors, automated recruiting techniques) to ensure data accuracy
  11. Be accountable for recruiting key performance indicators (KPI's) and effectiveness (quality of hire over time, source effectiveness, candidate drop-out rates, etc.)
  12. Provide recruiting expertise for SIA's beginning-to-end talent acquisition process
  13. Effectively source (both passively and actively) and screen candidates so that hiring managers are presented with the most qualified and appropriately vetted candidates
  14. Coordinate with and provide counsel to hiring managers by leveraging data-driven decision making, current talent-related market data, and talent acquisition best practices
  15. Manage the candidate experience to ensure candidates are engaged and informed throughout the selection process
  16. Process/Investigate complaints regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, or other instances of workplace harassment and assist in any necessary investigations and disciplinary actions
  17. Maintain Associate personnel records and organization job descriptions
  18. Conduct investigations and recommend corrective action where necessary
  19. Actively participates in section and departmental staff meetings
  20. Maintains knowledge of HR industry best practices and current trends and participates in continuous professional development opportunities
  21. Participates in the preparation of the Associate Development budget and other activities related to section budget control responsibilities
  22. Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required and 2 or more years relevant experience

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master's degree plus 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Relevant certifications:  PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP
  • Spanish speaking preferred

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, and presenting
  • MS Office, including advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of principles (including governing laws and regulations) and procedures for performance management, employee relations, recruiting, interviewing, selection, training, retention, and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Critical thinking and problem solving, including knowledge of problem-solving techniques (e.g., PDCA, fishbone, SWOT, etc.)
  • Independently motivated individual able to prioritize work under pressure and tight deadlines and minimal supervision
  • Dependability

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will not supervise other Associates.

 

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions, particularly during heavy customer service periods (e.g., in-between production shifts).   Occasionally required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role is occasionally required to utilize manufacturing equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.   The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, and management.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate with or without a reasonable accommodation to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing the duties of this role, the Associate is required to be at work as scheduled consistently and dependably, talk, and hear.  The Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger for keyboarding, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  

 

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to occasional overtime to meet demands of production, which may include 1-3 scheduled Saturdays per year and occasional daily overtime.   This role does not currently allow for remote work opportunities.

 

Travel

This role requires minimal travel.  Occasional travel may be required mainly for off-site training or business collaboration purposes.
