Summary

Software application developers function as computer software engineers who design, build, implement, and maintain computer software applications to meet business needs. Software application developers conduct software analysis, program, test, and debug software. Software application developers maintain and support both new and existing applications to enhance function and maintain or improve performance.

 

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions described below are intended to broadly define the expectations of the role.

 

  1. Perform all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  2. Collaborate with SIA management and business users to define system requirements and specifications
  3. Write program code to translate requirements into functioning applications
  4. Design application databases and/or database changes in collaboration with Database Administrator(s)
  5. Produce efficient, scalable, readable code that satisfies requirements and meets industry, SIA, and team standards
  6. Thoroughly unit test all technical deliverables, participate in system testing and support user acceptance testing as needed.
  7. Modify software to fix errors, adapt to new hardware or runtimes, improve performance, or upgrade interfaces or component versions
  8. Lead and/or support continuous improvement activities to improve application functionality and performance
  9. Deliver ad hoc reports and data extracts as needed
  10. All other duties as assigned.

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Self-motivated, high initiative with the ability to manage projects from start to finish
  • Experience using data to drive activity, productivity, and cost management or improvement
  • Significant knowledge system software/hardware technology and programming languages (Java, SQL, etc.)
  • Knowledge of design patterns and conventions
  • Knowledge of databases, relational and others
  • Broad familiarity with standard practices and methods file operations, protocols, FTP, etc.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will not supervise other Associates

 

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional open office environment subject to frequent interruptions and distractions, particularly during heavy customer service periods (e.g., in-between production shifts). Required to work in an industrial manufacturing setting that will include moving and/or assembly lines. This role is occasionally required to utilize manufacturing equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The role frequently collaborates with colleagues, internal customers/Associates, external contractors, and management.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate with or without a reasonable accommodation to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing the duties of this role, the Associate is required to be at work as scheduled consistently and dependably able to speak and hear. The Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger for keyboarding, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The ability to sit, stand and walk for up to two hours at a time.

 

Work Hours

This role generally works administrative hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday) and is subject to overtime to meet business or project demands, which may include scheduled weekends, shutdowns, and daily overtime to meet department goals and deadlines. This role does not currently allow for remote work opportunities.

 

Travel

This role requires minimal travel. Occasional travel may be required mainly for off-site training or business collaboration purposes including potential overseas travel.
