Outline of duties:

 

The Supplier Management Engineer works cohesively with Supplier Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering to improve quality via production process-continuous improvement projects at various suppliers. The group assesses the supplier’s plant capabilities after monitoring specific KPI’s derived from internal tracking information. This allows the SMQ group to go into a supplier’s plant, find inefficiencies, and implement kaizen activities, continuous improvement projects, coupled with training programs to help the supplier improve. The range of manufacturing processes and end products to which the group is exposed is vast:  metals, plastics, electrical components, seats, vehicle accessories, and more. Due to this, SMQ members are exceptionally well-rounded manufacturing professionals. 

 

Primary responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate and conduct assembly trials on-site at suppliers and complete the PDCA cycle     
  • Work within a cross-functional team to identify and analyze supplier quality issues, productivity issues, and makes recommendations to assist in resolving permanently
  • Performs project management of all activities included within the scope of supplier audits, follow up, scheduling and completion
  • Designs, develops, and implements production chain optimization strategies                                     
  • Work with other departments during early development to understand supplier parts and processes       
  • Travel to supplier locations to conduct production trials and assess potential issues and assist in resolving; critically challenges suppliers on process improvement initiatives                           
  • Builds and maintains relationships with suppliers to support new model quality development     
  • Trains suppliers to the Subaru Quality Manual                                                                                              
  • Support current model quality and productivity issues                                                                
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Quality, or related field, plus 1 – 3 years of relevant experience
  • In lieu of education, 5 or more years directly related experience may be considered              

  

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Quality, or related field
  • 2 years of quality, production, and/or manufacturing experience
  • ASQ certification, Quality Auditor Certification, Green/Black Belt Certification
