SQA Group Leader – 1st shift

Shift: 6am - 2:30pm (some additional hours, some Saturday work), direct hire salaried role with benefits and paid OT eligible

 

 

Overview:  Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. was America’s first zero-landfill automotive manufacturing company and is the safest vehicle manufacturer in the country. SIA is a 4.4 million square foot facility with 6400+ associates and is growing. The automotive manufacturing plant houses both production and administration offices. This role will be based on the plant floor and will be intimate with the vehicle assembly process. The core function of the SQA Group Leader (GL) is to listen to production’s findings on defects, identify the root cause, come up with an immediate corrective course of action, effectively communicate to associated departments to implement those urgent measures, and, finally, to strategically relay findings to 1st shift and/or suppliers in efforts to eliminate repetitive issues in the future.

 

The role: Quality Engineer Supervisor, Supplier Quality Assurance Engineering Supervisor

Below is a breakdown of the 4 primary duties of the Supplier Quality Assurance Engineering Group Leader

  • Communication: This leadership role must effectively communicate across many departments and shifts while managing 10 or more associates. Quality defects, their root causes and proposed solutions require clear communication, documentation, and follow up. The general process of communications is to a) listen b) help identify a root cause c) communicate back with the internal department to propose a solution or containment strategy d) Communicate externally – have suppliers expedite parts while sorting internally for good parts during the containment implementation.
  • Internal Customer Service: This role provides customer service to multiple internal departments. Your service to these departments will involve analyzing root causes of issues. E.g. Part workability comes into play when parts meet spec, however the tolerances of mating products overlap, and the part will not fit properly. In this example, the SQA Group Leader will come up with a solution, communicate a strategy to appropriate shops, and make send out information to 1st shift and suppliers in regard to a permanent fix.
  • Supervision & Leadership: You will manage and develop 10-12 associates. The goal is to groom key skilled associates’ knowledge with career development in mind. This involves helping them develop techniques to conduct deeper investigations and root cause analyses, communication skills, and ownership of processes.
  • Data & Tracking: You will use both in-house systems and excel to track daily quality issues. These issues may involve any of the following: ergonomics, bad welds, fit on mating parts, electrical, and workability.


Specific Job Duties: 

  • Supervise SQA associates and make assignments based on daily activity needs. 
  • Communicate with and respond to production section concerns regarding supplied part issues. 
  • Lead investigation activity and initiate containment protocol for supplied part issues.
  • Lead group TPM activity. (Group and team boards, 5S3D, etc.)
  • Provide leadership and guidance to help group exceed all SQCD targets.    
  • Utilize part drawings, technical specifications and other standards to determine part requirements and conformance to those requirements using PFMEA, Control Plans, Work Instructions, etc. 
  • Lead and support in-depth process audits at Suppliers
  • Track and analyze trend data for key metrics in order to identify and prioritize improvement projects for continuous improvement at Suppliers
  • Review, track and disposition weekly and monthly reports
  • Effectively interact and communicate with entities inside and outside of SIA
  • Extensive travel to Suppliers for Audits and follow-up required within the US, Mexico, Canada and overseas
  • Project Management of all activities included within the scope of Supplier Audits, Follow Up, Scheduling and Completion

 

 

Qualification requirements: Environmental Engineer

  • Completed 4-year degree OR 3+ years in an automotive manufacturing quality role
  • Ability to work 2nd shift
  • Has experience and/or ability to supervise others
  • Experience handling large amounts of data, trending data, and using data to propose manufacturing solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Understanding manufacturing quality tools: PDCA, 5 Y, Fishbone, etc.
