Logistics Engineering Department: 


Responsible for establishing internal and external logistics processes for new vehicle development, special projects, and current production.  Logistics Engineering Section roles include project planning and management of supplier parts packaging as well as internal and external sequencing packaging, warehousing, part delivery, and CapEx budgets (estimations and management) for annual and model change projects while maintaining continuous improvement activities related to Safety, Environmental, Quality, Cost and Delivery.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Propose, evaluate, and implement packaging and shipping container systems based upon understanding of supplier requirements, production processes, logistics, distribution, warehousing, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique shipping racks
  • Interface with SIA Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Environmental and Safety departments along with SIA Suppliers to gather and develop packaging requirements
  • Project Manage development of packaging for approximately 60 assigned suppliers and monitor packaging design into mass production to ensure quality part shipments
  • Identify requirements and address concerns during development
  • Support with packaging related issues in mass production
  • Manage project budgets, risks, and change management
  • Support overall supply chain cost reductions in the areas of packaging investment, expendable expense, transportation, and handling costs through packaging design without sacrificing part quality or personnel safety


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, or equivalent work experience in automotive packaging
  • Working knowledge of CAD and technical drawings
  • Proficient at project management, risk mitigation and communication
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite and experience with CAD software (i.e., Inventor or SolidWorks)
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing (machining, welding, injection molding etc.) and Supply Chain processes
  • Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (steel, composites, foam, etc.)
  • Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM with an understanding of packaging testing and validation
  • Willing to travel to remote sites as needed for container development, implementation, and packaging quality issue resolution.
